Never would I give my precious soft serve to a dog…. and I do love dogs)
But I do know my face looked like this when I had my 1st cone of Spring.. It was the rare coffee flavor.
Not from one of those places with 50 flavors and a pump system that makes weak and washed out flavors. ( Stay away from those places. Not worthy).
It was from a Mom and Pop cash only spot near a beach.
There was a sketchy ATM on the side of the building.. looked rusty and would’ve charged too much.
I come from an Italian family… we always carry cash.
Cash is for tipping (always welcome) and for those times when there is Salvation Army worker or kids with a lemonade stand. Or people that need help at a grocery store.
I especially enjoy using it when I want to get the look of snobbish dismay from the judging wench at Pottery Barn.. But that is another story.
Back to the glory of soft serve: it is magical and smooth and delicious.
If you are searching for it and the sign says Frozen Yogurt and the end product is weighed… Stay away. No need for gummy bears, jelly beans, crushed chocolate chip cookies , or sour worms that turn it into a tasteless 2 lb blob. I feel bad for this generation of kiddos that load up a somewhat healthy treat and then can’t even eat 1/2 of it. They are missing the joy of a cone and a warm day.
Besides that- the flavors are way too odd.. Pomegranate, Kiwi and Starfruit ,,ew
There is never a need to add anything but sprinkles to soft soft serve… not that I ever would.
Also- do not put it into one of those huge waffle cones,, it’s offensive.
And sugar cones are just too sweet.
Just get the plain, crunchy, flat bottomed ‘cake cone” that comes with a paper band on it.
It is like a seal of approval… No hands have held your cone and changed your cash with coins..
Freshness.
I do like a flavor twist,,, like the classic black and white or the summery creamsicle, ( an orange and vanilla pleasure).
I think the best parents teach their toddlers with soft serve… 85% less likely to cause a brain freeze.
And I have noticed that many kind staff bring special needs adults and kids to these places – less fuss… a picnic table and kindness.
Or it’s ok to sit in the car and eat it. Notice that these people are always smiling.
I do like the control I have with a soft serve cone.. any size.
No need to sit around and eat it for me.
I love to drive along and get the admiring glances from pedestrians and other drivers. I think it is helpful for the business. I am all about the college and high school kids who have been working there on hot summer nights for generations. They do enjoy a cash tip.
Is it soft serve for you? Or do you prefer the ‘hard ‘ ice cream?
